Neil is a Professor of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University and Scientific Director of 4D LABS, a research centre for advanced materials and nanoscale devices. His expertise lies at the interface of organic chemistry and materials science with a focus on designing and synthesizing molecular switches (molecules that change their structure and function when triggered by light, electricity, or other stimuli). He is one of Canada's leading materials scientists, is a 2006 Canada's Top 40Under 40 recipient, a 2005 NSERC Steacie Fellowship winner, and a Tier I Canada Research Chair in Materials Science.
